Artist’s Eye: Paul Fuentes
Paul Fuentes is a graphic designer, originally from Mexico City, now based in the UK, who enjoys turning everyday objects into surreal and colorful compositions. His work ranges from advertising campaigns, movie posters and magazine covers, to beautiful photographic creations, suitable for framing. His images colorfully blend elements of Miami Art Deco, Palm Springs midcentury architecture, and 60s Hollywood glamour.
Fuentes, who collaborates with his wife Ilse, uses and combines his own photographs and footage from real places to create extraordinary effects. The artist duo creates large and small scale works in their London studio, where they take their unpredictable leaps in the spirit of the surrealist principle of combination. When asked to describe his style, Fuentes says, “I can say it’s the new pop art. The style is modern, minimal, colourful, surreal, photography. It has a creamy pastel aesthetic.”
One of Paul’s favorite themes is to bring wild animals into unexpected locations – poolside, for example. And we were happy to join the fun when he asked to use our PS Modern Double Decker umbrellas in two of his poolside works, “Pooltime Giraffe” and “Hollywood Tigers”.
