SBD @ Modernism 2022
This year Santa Barbara Designs returned to Modernism Week in Palm Springs, to deck out the east facing patio of a unique William Krisel designed home – in classic midcentury modern style. The home is featured on the Indian Canyons Neighborhood Tour, one of the highlights of Modernism Week. This neighborhood is known for its distinctive midcentury modern architects such as Dan Palmer, Stan Sackley, Charles DuBois, William Krisel, and others.
Designed by renowned mid-century architect William Krisel, the gated compound, on prestigious Caliente Drive on the Indian Canyon golf course, was built in 1969. Its unusual exterior architecture, complete with two large Chimera stone sculptures (a fire-breathing female monster with a lion’s head, a goat’s body, and a serpent’s tail) provides the perfect juxtaposition for our Slim Aarons-inspired “La Concha” Double Decker umbrella in Cabana Pink Dot.
Guests visited six different homes on the three-hour tour, where most of the neighborhood’s coveted real estate has been restored to reflect its modernist roots. Above all, integration of the desert’s natural beauty into the homes is the Indian Canyons neighborhood’s trademark.
