Style Spotlight on Wine Country

Welcome to The Francis House, Calistoga’s newest small luxury hotel, and our latest hospitality installation. Known for its world-famous hot springs and esteemed wineries, Calistoga and its very own Francis House offer a welcome respite from everyday life. What began as a family home in 1886 for a prominent local merchant, James H. Francis, is now a charming destination for those seeking luxury with a dash of history.

After many years serving the Francis family, the house served the community as the Calistoga Hospital. Its distinct contemporary French design and its prominent presence throughout the decades eventually earned the building a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.

When San Francisco-based interior designer-real estate developer couple, Dina and Richard Dwyer, purchased the property in 2015 it had fallen into disrepair after standing vacant for 50 years. Today, after three years of painstaking restoration and redesign, it has been transformed into one of the ’15 Best-Designed Hotels’ that opened in summer 2018 according to Architecturaldigest.com.

Guests at The Francis House are treated to Dina and Richard’s warm hospitality, as well as their culinary talents. Menus change daily, and meals are prepared from locally sourced ingredients.

With its salt room and rejuvenation infrared sauna, bar billiards, and relaxing pool area (shaded generously with Santa Barbara umbrellas) The Francis House offers many ways to fill a day. Surrounded by grounds reminiscent of the French countryside with citrus trees and an owner-tended herb garden, yet conveniently located in the heart of downtown Calistoga, The Francis House is your new wine country destination. Santa Barbara Designs is proud to make history with this charming property.
